Closure & Support
The goal is not to finish every thought. The goal is to close the
entry in a way that supports present-moment orientation and stability.
Closure & De-escalation
Take a moment to close this entry. Allow your breathing to settle
naturally rather than forcing a particular breathing pattern.
Then notice a few details of the environment around you and remind
yourself that you are here in the present moment.
You may look around, notice the surface supporting your body,
identify a familiar sound, notice an object nearby, or connect
with another present-focused grounding cue.
When to Stop
Stop writing if you experience uncontrollable flashbacks, severe
dissociation, rapidly increasing distress, panic that is becoming
difficult to manage, or a significant loss of connection with
the present moment.
You do not need to complete the journal entry. Close the journal
and return to a grounding or stabilization practice that feels
appropriate. If symptoms remain severe or you cannot regain a
sufficient sense of orientation or safety, contact an appropriate
mental-health professional, trusted support person, crisis service,
or emergency service according to your situation.
