Safe Place Visualization

Creating an internal safe place as a regulatory resource to return to when feeling threatened or distressed.

Visualization can be triggering for some people. If the visualization becomes distressing or intrusive images enter, stop immediately and use 5-4-3-2-1 Grounding to return to the present.

Visualization Practice Steps

1
If it feels comfortable, soften your gaze or close your eyes and take a moment to settle.
2
Think of a place where you feel completely safe (real or imagined)
3
Enter this place through all five senses
4
Notice what you see, hear, feel, smell, taste
5
Choose a word or phrase connected to this place
